photoshop artistic filters greyed out

Why are some of my Photoshop filters selectable?
Im in Photoshop CS4 and I have about 20 layers of photos, etc.. but I did not expect make filters like "artistic" Pixelate Strokes' or 'brush' on any layer. The buttons are the color gray. Filters that You can select only the "fluff" and video of 'styling'''and so on. What is happening? I really appreciate your help, thank you! Oh, and Case help, here are the specs: Size A3, 600 dpi, CMYK.
Many filters are not usable in CMYK mode. You must be in RGB mode.
