photoshop high contrast portrait

My cousin wants me to take a picture of him for the senior portrait, but I'm not sure how to do this in Photoshop?

Open the image in Photoshop. Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J) Go to 'Layers' palette and change the blending mode to "Color Dodge" (which others can experience the blend modes as well)
